A master degree in Data Science and Analytics provide graduates with the knowledge and skills required to help companies and public bodies deal with ever increasing and complex data.
Data Analytics is the process of examining vast quantities of data, often referred to as Big Data, in order to draw conclusions and insights about the information they contain. Some examples of Data Analytics applications include real-time fraud detection, complex competitive commercial analysis, website optimisation, intelligent air, road and other traffic management and consumer spending patterns.
Big Data presents three primary problems: there's too much data to handle easily; the speed of data flowing in and out makes it difficult to analyse; and the range and type of data sources are too great to assimilate. With the right analytics and techniques, these big data can deliver hidden and unhidden insights, patterns and relationships from multiple sources using Data Analytics techniques.
The programme emphasizes the application of Statistics and Data science methodologies helping transform data into useful information that can support decision making. This program provides students with the necessary fundamental of mathematical and statistical skills required in a variety of Data analytics study areas.
The program provides graduates with an opportunity, to investigate the more applied elements of the disciplines through development of a research project. Advanced Analytics transforms data into informative, adaptive and accessible information.
Data analysis masters programs are available in 13 colleges/universities and institutes of technologies. Data analytics is coupled with other streams such as computing or social work also. Below is a list of institutions that offer the courses and the eligibility criteria for the same.
The programme will equip graduates with the skills and aptitudes necessary to excel in the emerging field of Big Data and Data Analytics. After completing the course you will be able to understand the data context, apply appropriate techniques and utilize the most relevant tools to generate insights into such data.
Students will develop their skills in areas including database technologies, data manipulation languages including SQL and the R programming language. Programming for Big Data, statistics and probabilities and the interpretation of data will be taught in order to understand the data. Interwoven within these modules is the use of industry-standard data analytics software tools. Students will develop skills to become data-savvy practitioners, gaining insights into data from which strategic decisions can be made.
